Master of Science in Cybersecurity

Applying to the MS in Cybersecurity Program

To be eligible for degree candidacy, applicants must meet all admission requirements established by the Graduate School at Eastern Illinois University.

Please note that admission to the program is competitive. Meeting minimum Graduate School requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the Cybersecurity program.

These admission procedures apply to applicants to the M.S. in Cybersecurity, the Master of Science in Technology, and related graduate certificate programs.

Application Deadlines

We encourage all applicants to apply early to allow sufficient time for processing, document review, and enrollment preparation.

International Students

Domestic Students (U.S.)

Application and document deadlines are as follows:

  • Fall semester
    Apply by March 15
    Submit all required documents by May 30
  • Spring semester
    Apply by October 15
    Submit all required documents by October 30

Steps to Apply

Step 1: Apply to the Graduate School

All applicants must first apply to the Graduate School through MyEIU.

The Graduate School requires:

  1. A completed online application

  2. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended

  3. A $30 application fee

Step 2: Apply to the Cybersecurity Program

After submitting your Graduate School application, log back into MyEIU to complete the program application for the M.S. in Cybersecurity.

Be prepared to submit:

  1. Two email addresses for letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your potential for graduate-level academic performance
  2. A current resume highlighting relevant experience in technology or related fields
  3. A Statement of Purpose describing your academic background, professional experience, career goals, and reasons for pursuing graduate study in cybersecurity

Step 3: Monitor Your Application Status
Track your application progress through MyEIU. You will receive updates and an official admission decision through your account.
Step 4: Apply for a Graduate Assistantship (Optional)

Students interested in a graduate assistantship must submit a separate assistantship application.

Assistantships are typically awarded for the academic year. Applications are usually accepted through mid-February, with decisions made shortly after. Visit the Graduate School website for current deadlines and opportunities.

Step 5: Prepare to Begin Your Program

Once admitted to Eastern Illinois University, you can register for classes, connect with your advisor, and plan your schedule. Whether you are completing coursework online or attending residency experiences on campus, you will be supported every step of the way as you begin your graduate studies.
