Requirements for a Graduate Assistantship

Graduate assistantships (GAs) are only available to qualified applicants in the Thesis option

Although not required, preference is given to applicants who have previously identified a faculty thesis mentor who has provided written confirmation of acceptance into his/her lab group and a GPA of more than 3.0 out of 4.0.  Most GAs are distributed to students entering in the Fall semester. GAs earn a monthly stipend of $1000 per month and a tuition waiver scholarship.   As directed by course instructors GAs are expected to assist in classroom teaching activities. GAs are granted for a nine-month academic year and are renewable for a second academic year if instructional service and progress toward completion of the degree program are satisfactory. In addition to GAs, a number of summer research assistantships and awards are also available on a competitive basis. All application materials should be received before February 15th to be considered for a GA.

Prospective students are encouraged to contact members of the faculty to explore mutual research interests.
