Thursday, September 17

• 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. – Writing Center in-person and online appointments
  • Free Writing Center appointments are available to all students at any stage in the writing process. Book in-person or online appointments at www.eiu.edu/writing or drop in to the Center on the 3rd floor of Booth Library.
• Noon to 1 p.m. – VIEWPOINTS: FINDING YOUR VOICE
  • Join us for the opening program of this year's Viewpoints series featuring Bradi O'Rourke, M.S., CCC-SLP, 黑料社区alumna and founder of Braxy Speech Therapy. Through an inspiring conversation, Bradi will share her journey from graduate student to entrepreneur, building a thriving pediatric speech therapy practice while embracing the unique strengths that have shaped both her personal and professional life. • 5 to 6 p.m. – Crystal Bowl Sound Bath at Tarble
  • Free and open to the public! Bring your own yoga mat or blanket, and enjoy a sound bath experience that supports collective stillness, gratitude, and reflection. Doors to the museum will lock at 5:05 p.m., and entry will not be permitted while meditation is in progress! Location: Tarble Arts Center, Eastern Illinois University, 2010 9th Street, Charleston.
• 5:30 to 8 p.m. – Charleston Baptist College Ministry Group Night
  • The College Ministry program from Charleston Baptist Church hosts a weekly student group/game night every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for students to eat food, learn from the Bible, and play games with other students from the community. Location: 2800 University Drive, Charleston.
• 6 to 7 p.m. – Philosophy Club Meeting
  • This event is the recurring biweekly club meeting for the RSO Philosophy Club. Location: Coleman Hall.
• 7 to 8 p.m. – Concerts in the Park featuring Aaron and the SunDogs
  • Free concert in Kiwanis Park at the Daum Amphitheater. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and listen to Aaron and the SunDogs. Sponsored by Consolidated Communications/Fidium Fiber.

Friday, September 18

• 8 to 9 a.m. – Charleston Historic Preservation Commission
  • Members of the Charleston Historic Preservation Commission will meet in the City Hall Council Chambers, 520 Jackson Avenue, Charleston.
• 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Writing Center in-person and online appointments

• 11 a.m. to noon – Panther Communication (Student-Run Public Relations Agency) Meeting
  • Panther Communication, EIU's student-run PR Agency, is recruiting new members for the fall semester. All majors and experience levels are welcome. The agency meets Fridays from 11 a.m. to noon in Buzzard Hall 2521.
• 12:05 to 12:50 p.m. – Yoga! for Every Body
  • Join Raven and Sammie from Just Breathe Den for a free yoga class. Beginners through advanced yogis are welcome. Bring a mat and water bottle. Location: McAfee Gym Dance Studio.
• 4 to 5:30 p.m. – Insight forum | The Intriguing History of Pemberton Hall
  • Come hear the story of how Pemberton Hall came to be and the impact it has had on thousands of residents. Hear about the lore of its haunting as well as the distinguished visitors it has hosted. For accommodations, contact Alumni Relations at alumeiu@eiu.edu.
• 4 to 6 p.m. – Paper Mache Lanterns at Tarble
  • Free and open to the public. Join Kaylah in crafting paper mache lanterns. Customize them with pops of color and provided collage materials. Invite friends or family and be prepared to get messy! Location: Tarble Arts Center, Eastern Illinois University, 2010 9th Street, Charleston.
• 6 to 9 p.m. – Political Science & Philosophy Department Picnic
  • Come enjoy great food, good company and some fun with the faculty and staff of the Department of Political Science and Philosophy. Location: Lake Charleston Pavilion, 17801 Lake Charleston Loop, Charleston.
• 7:30 to 9 p.m. – Bill W. & Dr. Bob
  • Written by Samuel Shem & Janet Surrey and directed by Ronnie Marmo, this compelling true story tells of the two men who founded Alcoholics Anonymous, as well as their wives who founded Al-Anon. Location: Doudna Fine Arts Center.

Saturday, September 19

  • Local growers gather on the historic downtown square.
• 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – On the Road with EIU: Panthers vs. Redbirds
  • Join fellow Panthers for the 114th Mid-America Classic. Cheer on the Panthers as they take on the Illinois State Redbirds and reconnect with alumni and friends. The official Panther Tailgate begins at 11 a.m. in Parking Lot U91 next to the Illinois State baseball field.
• Noon to 2 p.m. – EIU Softball vs. Illinois Central College
  • 黑料社区Softball vs. Illinois Central College at Williams Field.

• ALL WEEK – Fall 2026 Hazing Prevention Week (events listed separately below)
• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Hazing Prevention Scavenger Hunt
  • Find the hazing prevention posters around campus – there are eight in total. Scan the QR code and take the pledge to end hazing at EIU. All EIU students are encouraged to list their student organization's involvement for a shout-out on the Dean of Students' social media and a printed certificate for their organization.
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Annual Poster Sale
  • Annual poster sale held on the Library Quad Sept. 21-22, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – These Hands Don't Haze!
  • EIU students are encouraged to paint a hand print on the “These Hands Don't Haze” banners that will be displayed on the Fourth Street softball field fence Sept. 22-28. Rain locations: South Quad Dining Breezeway, outside the MLK Jr. Union Food Court and Stevenson Hall Lobby.

  • Members of the Charleston Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will meet in the City Hall Council Chambers, 520 Jackson Avenue, Charleston.
• 5 to 6 p.m. – Bite Size Study Night - Be an Empowered Researcher
  • Join Booth Library, Academic Success and The Writing Center for a one-hour session each Monday from 5-6 p.m. Snacks and plenty of help will be available in the Collaboration Commons area next to the Research Help Desk, 3000 Level of the library.
• 6 to 7 p.m. – EIU Asian Pacific Islander Association Meeting
  • Weekly meeting of EIU APIA. Topics vary from Asia-Pacific cuisine, culture, history and language.
• 8 to 9 p.m. – Homecoming Informational Meeting
  • At the second Homecoming Informational Meeting, RSOs, Residence Halls and Greek Life representatives and leaders will discuss spirit competitions and how to participate.

Tuesday, September 22

• 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Faces of Hazing Exhibit
  • Stop by the display featuring photos and stories of hazing victims to educate the campus on the devastating impact hazing has on individuals and their families. Location: MLK Jr. University Bridge Lounge.
• 9 to 11:30 a.m. – Advanced Writing Retreat
  • Focus on research with professional support. The retreat is designed for Master's Degree, upper-level Honors and Senior Capstone students, with support from Writing Center faculty and Booth librarians. Light breakfast and coffee provided.
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Annual Poster Sale
  • Annual poster sale held on the Library Quad Sept. 21-22, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. – Writing Center in-person and online appointments

  • Fall into the habit of donating. The American Red Cross is offering a $15 e-gift card when you come to give blood Sept. 21-Oct. 18.

  • Join the Entrepreneurship Club to explore, develop and launch business ideas. Everyone from all majors is invited. Location: Lumpkin Hall Room 2121.

• 7:30 to 9 p.m. – A Duo Vocal Recital: Kate Tombaugh and Rebecca von Kamp
  • Visiting artist mezzo soprano Kate Tombaugh will come to campus to give a masterclass and share a vocal recital with Dr. Rebecca von Kamp. Location: Doudna Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

Wednesday, September 23

  • Stop hazing and raise awareness by posting on Instagram with @eiu #PanthersAgainstHazing and tagging @eiudeanofstudents. Posts should include why participants stand up against hazing or take a pledge to prevent hazing. The student organization with the best post will win a prize for the entire group.

  • Celebrate autumn at the Harvest Frolic. Activities at both the Lincoln and Sargent farms include children's crafts, food preservation, hearth cooking and artisan demonstrations, including spinning, pottery, blacksmithing, embroidery and more. Live music, storytelling and food trucks will also be featured. Location: Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site, 402 South Lincoln Hwy Rd., Lerna.
• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. –  returns to Booth Library
  • EIU Comic Fest is free and open to the public. The event includes comics, escape rooms, games, artists alley, a costume show/cosplay contest, trivia games, hands-on activities, exhibit displays and more. EIU alumnus Kofi Bazzell-Smith will deliver a keynote presentation, workshops and a gallery show of his art, while returning keynote presenter and alumnus Craig Titley will discuss the entertainment industry and connections to Coles County. Location: Booth Library.
