Insight forum | The Intriguing History of Pemberton Hall

This four-story residential building is the 2nd oldest structure on Eastern's campus after the iconic Old Main Castle. It includes parlors, fireplaces, fourth floor maid's quarters, a matron's apartment, a dining room and much more. It was built in 1908 and is registered as a historic landmark, due to it being the first residence hall in Illinois on the campus of a State University. You are invited to come hear the story of how it came to be and the impact it has had on the thousands of residents who have lived there. Hear about the lore of its haunting as well as the distinguished visitors it has hosted.

Retired Executive Director | Housing & Dining
Mark recently retired after serving 25 years as the Executive Director of Housing and Dining Services at EIU. He returned to Charleston after 18 years at the University of North Dakota, where he worked in its housing and dining operation. He is widely known as the EIU history guy, leading many campus tours with a special focus on its rich residential history. This fall marks the 50th year since he arrived at EIU as a freshman in 1976
